Outstanding Section & Collegiate Chapter Partnership Award

This award recognizes those SAE Sections and Student Chapters that engage in a high level of interaction with each other for the mutual benefit of their respective members. The award is designed to honor exceptional efforts by SAE Section and Student Chapter leaders for developing a comprehensive, year-round program of activities, events, services, and networking opportunities for the benefit of their local SAE professional members, SAE faculty advisors, and the student members of the local SAE collegiate chapters.

Minimum Qualifications for being considered for the award:

  • SAE Section must have a designated Vice Chair for Student Activities serving on the local Section governing board.
  • Participating SAE Student Chapter(s) must have an assigned SAE Faculty Advisor and a current slate of student officers (chair, vice chair, secretary, and treasurer) for each participating collegiate chapter.

Award levels:

  • President's Citation for Outstanding Section/Chapter Partnership. This is the highest level award given to one SAE Section/Student Chapter(s) with the best overall program. In addition to a handsome plaque and website award icon, both the SAE Section and the participating Student Chapter(s) will receive a monetary award designated for future teaming projects. In addition, the winning participants will be featured in UPdate, SAE International's monthly publication.

  • SAE Section/Chapter Partnerships of Distinction Awards. This award will be presented to all Section/Student Chapter that attain a minimum of 50 award points based on the award criteria (see attached criteria). There is no set limit to the number of Partnership of Distinction awards. Selected Sections and their participating Student Chapter(s) will receive a specially engraved plaque along with a website award icon.

  • Certificate of Recognition. All nominated Sections/Chapters that compile a minimum number of 30 award points will receive a specially designed Certificate of Recognition.


Award Criteria and Points Assessment

SAE Sections and SAE Student Chapters do a wide variety of member programs and services, all geared toward involving their members in to local activities. The items listed below represent many of the traditional activities conducted by both the local Section and Student Chapters. The Outstanding Section/Student Chapter Partnership Award program recognizes local leaders for working as a team to implement the best all-around yearly program for their membership.

Each item has a point range. Award points for each item will be assessed based on the level of participation and detail per item. The items listed below are a compilation of traditional Section/Student Chapter activities. If your Section/Student Chapter conducts any unique activity not listed, please provide details of the activity (activities) under the 'Other Activities' portion.

Point Range Activity

5 - 10 Sponsor a "Student Night" Section meeting that involves SAE student chapters and their student officers/faculty advisors.

5 - 10 Local student leaders serve on the Section's governing board.

5 - 10 Sponsor an SAE International Collegiate Design Series competition event at the Section.

5 - 10 Provide financial assistance to Student Chapter(s).

1 - 5 Sponsor career resources and job-search assistance.

1 - 5 Provide an organized mentoring program.

1 - 5 Enlist student members to volunteer for A World In Motion.

1 - 5 Provide speakers and/or tours for Student Chapter(s).

1 - 5 Section promotes its Student Chapter(s) via their newsletter and/or web site.
1 - 5 Promote SAE student membership (recruitment/retention) at the local level.

1 - 3 Encourage students and faculty advisors to attend Section meetings (via mailings, meal discounts, etc.).

1 - 3 Student members are added to Section's mailing lists for all communications (surface mail and e-mail).

1 - 3 Section and Student Chapter(s) have weblinks to each other's web sites.

1 Faculty Advisor(s) serves on the Section's governing board.

1 Faculty Advisor(s) serves on the SAE International Faculty Advisors Committee.

1 Section has surveyed its student members to identify areas of interest and/or needs.

Applicants can receive an additional point for each Section/Student Chapter activity that's not listed above. Please provide a brief description of each activity.
