Guidelines for Obtaining Permission to Use SAE Copyrighted Material

Photocopying or republishing SAE International copyrighted material in another work, in whole or part, without written permission from SAE International is strictly prohibited.

Permission and fees to photocopy or republish SAE publications (in any format) may be obtained by mailing, emailing, or faxing a written request to:

SAE Copyright Administrator
SAE International
400 Commonwealth Drive
Warrendale, PA 15096-0001 - USA
email: copyright@sae.org
fax: 724-776-9765

Please note that all requests for permission must be in writing. We do not grant verbal permission.

SAE evaluates each request on a case-by-case basis and if permission is granted, it is for one-time single use only. New requests are required for subsequent editions, for reprints or excerpts, or for other uses of the material.

SAE processes permission requests within four to six weeks of receiving a written request that includes the required information. (More complex requests could take longer.)

Before requesting permission, determine if SAE is the actual copyright holder. The most likely place to find this is on the copyright page. However, for figures or tables, you need to check the caption or reference section of the publication.

In order for us to handle your request promptly, please include as much information as possible.
