Search tips

Use the search feature located at the top center of most pages on the website.

• Quick search
  Type the word(s), standard number, or other product number you want to search on in the "Search for" box then click the "Go" button.
• Wildcard searching
  Try using an asterisk (*) as a wildcard.
• Search syntax
  You can search using all the words you type into the "Search for" box, the exact phrase you type, some of the words you type, or you can do a boolean search (using and, or, not). Select the syntax you want from the pop-up box.
• Fielded searching
  This is helpful when searching for publications. You may search by the following fields: title; abstract, scope, or description; author; author's employer; committee responsible for the document; and full text of a paper or standard (if it is available for downloading). To choose the field you want to search, use the pop-up box.
  
  Please note: When you select the field labeled "All," you will be searching over all the bibliographic information about the document, which does not include the full-text of the document.
• Website area search
  You can conduct narrower searches over these specific areas of the SAE website: books, papers, standards, conferences (includes conferences, expositions, seminars, and courses), SAE Strategic Alliance (includes technical committees, cooperative research, and the SAE Manufacturing Center), students, SAE Congress, and SAE magazines. To choose the area of the site you want to search, use the pop-up box.
• Standards Search Tips
  Do not type a space or any punctuation between the standard's letter and number. For example, type: J1831, not J-1831 or J 1831.
• Papers Search Tips
  To search for a paper, enter the paper number only (for example: 2000-02-3543) The entire list of SAE papers is accessible through a subscription to WebDEX. The full list of SAE papers including abstracts is available with a subscription to the Global Mobility Database.
