The SAE Aerospace Council guides the activities of the Aerospace Standards Program. The Council members are executives from commercial, regional, general aviation, military, space and government agencies. These leaders ensure that the program is well managed, efficient, avoids duplication of effort, and addresses the aerospace industry needs. The SAE Aerospace Council reports to the Technical Standards Board (TSB).

The SAE A-6 Aerospace Actuation, Control and Fluid Power Systems committee addresses all facets of aerospace fluid power, actuation, and control--design, maintenance, and in-service experience. Its goal is to serve as the primary U.S. technical consultative body in fluid power, and to assist government agencies and departments, and other industry groups in providing impartial advice and counsel on technical, operational, safety, and other related matters. The group is dedicated to creating, preparing, and maintaining all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for fluid power, actuation, and control systems.

The SAE AE-6 Starting Systems & Auxiliary Power committee addresses all facets of aerospace engine starting, auxiliary power, and related secondary systems--design, maintenance, and in-service experience. These systems include electrical, hydraulic, gaseous, and pneumatic engine starting using stored energy sources such as batteries, hydraulic accumulators, solid or liquid propellants, stored gas, or small gas turbine engines. The group is dedicated to creating, preparing, and maintaining all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for aircraft engine starting and auxiliary power systems.

The SAE AMS Metals Group is comprised of six committees dedicated to creating and maintaining more than 2400 AMS specifications covering metals and metals processes. Five of those committees are categorized by commodity and are dedicated to maintaining specifications. These include:

The SAE E-25 General Standards for Aerospace & Propulsion Systems committee addresses all facets of aerospace propulsion systems and components--design, maintenance, and in-service experience. These systems and components include aerospace propulsion engines and propellers including bolts, screws, nuts, washers, studs, rivets, pins, fluid fittings, gaskets, covers, O-rings, brackets, clamps, plugs, as well as design specifications for screw threads and fastener assembly requirements. The committee is dedicated to creating, preparing, and maintaining all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for aerospace propulsion systems.

The group is dedicated to creating, preparing, and maintaining all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for in-flight propulsion measurement.

This work includes lubricants used for gas turbine and privately owned jet engines, aircraft gearboxes and accessories as well as synthetic lubricants found on turbo propeller engines. The group is dedicated to creating, preparing, and maintaining all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for propulsion lubricants.

The SAE EG-1 Aerospace Propulsion System Support Equipment committee addresses all facets of aerospace propulsion support equipment--design, maintenance, and in-service experience. It focuses on support equipment and facilities related to gas turbine engine testing, balancing, engine accessory testing, inspection, packaging, handling, and transportability. High performance hand tools for aerospace applications are also addressed by EG-1. The group is dedicated to creating, preparing, and maintaining all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for aerospace propulsion-system support equipment.

The SAE G-3 Aerospace Couplings, Fittings, Hose, and Tubing Assemblies committee addresses all facets of aerospace fluid system components--design, test, procurement, maintenance, and in-service experience. The group is dedicated to creating, preparing, and maintaining all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for aerospace fluid system parts. A portion of the committee's work is focused on the development of procurement specifications, and the establishment of PRI Qualified Parts Lists and Nadcap Qualified Manufacturer Lists.

The SAE G-14 Americas Aerospace Quality Group (AAQG) committee addresses all facets of aerospace quality--design, maintenance, and in-service experience. The group is dedicated to creating, preparing, and maintaining all relevant specifications, standards, and requirements for aerospace quality systems. Improvement in quality through variance reduction in processes and procedures is the continual focus of the committee. AAQG aims to establish and maintain a dynamic cooperation based on trust between Americas aerospace companies on initiatives to make significant improvements in quality performance and reductions in cost throughout the value stream. Initial focus regarding this objective is to continuously improve the processes used by the supply chain to deliver consistently high quality products, thereby reducing non-value added activities and costs. Other objectives for this committee are: to establish commonality of quality standards, requirements, tools and techniques; start a process of continuous improvement at suppliers; create methods to share results; and implement plans to bring the initiative to life (e.g. obtain regulatory concurrence).

SAE S-7 Flight Deck & Handling Qualities Standards for Transport Aircraft
