Wire harness handling

Harness Software Ltd., developers of software-based solutions for the wire harness industry is supplying CAPITAL H, its tool for wire harness design, engineering, and manufacture, to GKN Westland Helicopters. The company will use the software to replace its in-house developed system and will deploy it across the EH101, Sea King, and Lynx projects.
Wiring for modern aircraft can be highly complex; a typical helicopter may have 20 mi of wiring and managing it manually can be very demanding. "Developing wire harnesses for aircraft applications has become a very time consuming part of developing new projects," says Harness Software's Technical Director, John Judkins, who states that CAPITAL H is currently in use at several automotive wire harness manufacturing sites in Europe. At GKN Westland, CAPITAL H will interface with the SAP-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and will drive the company's Vektronics laser marker.
