Collaborating on smarter cabins

Lightweight materials, security and surveillance systems, cabin acoustics, and lighting are the main elements of "Smart Cabin," a joint project between Lufthansa Technik and QinetiQ. Last October the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) "with the purpose of advancing a range of technology cabin systems solutions in the executive and VIP jet market." According to QinetiQ Business Development Manager David Howells, "The cabin-systems market has changed significantly in recent years, with airlines and their suppliers challenging the received wisdom of how an aircraft interior should look."
