Making the F-35precisely
Absolute precision is a vital element for the successful machining of carbon-fiber parts for aircraft applications, backed up by a similarly precise inspection system. An LK coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is being used by BAE Systems to help meet precision requirements for the production of carbon-fiber panels for the aft fuselage and tail assembly of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. The machining cell is at BAE's Samlesbury facility in northwest England and is part of a dedicated complex for designing, engineering, and building major assemblies for the F-35.
