Concept vehicle highlights from the NAIAS
Chrysler's Citadel hybrid-hybrid

According to Neil Walling, Vice President of Chrysler's Advanced Design and Exterior Large Car, Small Car and Minivan Design, the Citadel concept is a hybrid-hybrid, a new breed of crossover vehicle that provides the driving passion of the Chrysler 300M with ample cargo room. While Citadel is a hybrid among market segments, it also has a hybrid powertrain—it draws power from two different sources. The Citadel is said to give V8 power with V6 fuel economy.

A 189-kW (253-hp), 3.5-L, V6 gasoline engine powers the rear wheels and Siemens Automotive electric motors drive the fronts, adding an additional 52 kW (70 hp). The hybrid concept is used to recover energy normally lost when braking, while providing all-wheel drive without the complexities of a more conventional parallel hybrid.

The Citadel features dual-power sliding rear doors and a retracting cargo door that slides under the floor. It is built on the Chrysler Concorde floorpan and body-in-white, and is 4880 mm (192 in.) long, 1910 mm (75 in.) wide, and 1500 mm (59 in.) tall. The "cab rearward" car has a relatively long 3180-mm (125-in.) wheelbase for its length. It has about 50 mm (2 in.) more ground clearance, is 75 mm (3 in.) taller, and has 37 L (1.3 ft3) more storage capacity than the Concorde.
