Driver Advocate for Chrysler

A ringing cell phone, notice of depleting washer fluid, and other nonsafety messages may be put on hold by an onboard vehicle information manager during driver distraction moments, if DaimlerChrysler developers have their way. Serving as the vehicle's workload manager, the company's Driver Advocate System determines when incoming nonurgent messages are appropriate for delivery to the driver. The system uses a software overlay and an array of vehicle sensors—including steering angle, steering grip, transmission, braking, and vehicle speed—to determine whether a message is released or suppressed.
