Acura RS-X prototype
Acura's RS-X sports coupe prototype provides a glimpse of the technology and styling direction for the company's Integra replacement to be introduced later this year. The company says the prototype uses advanced engine technology in combination with rigid unit-body construction, a highly aerodynamic body, and a sport-tuned chassis.
Providing for the vehicle's high performance, low emissions (meets LEV standards), and fuel efficiency is a new-generation 2.0-L, 16-valve DOHC engine with i-VTEC "intelligent" valve-control that produces about 149 kW (200 hp). Honda's patented i-VTEC combines Var-iable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) with Variable Timing Control (VTC) to continuously adjust camshaft phase for better performance and efficiency across the engine-speed range. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission.
The production version of Acura's RS-X will debut at the New York Auto Show in April.
