Romania, the legendary home of Count Dracula, dates back 2300 years. Romania was formally called Dacia after the people that lived there at the time. About 22.5 million people now live in Romania. The country established a new constitution in 1991 creating a democratic republic. The inflation rate is around 35%, GDP, $33.15 billion, and per capita income, $1490. The government consumes about 10% of GDP. Romania's top income tax rate is 60% (average: 34%). The corporate income tax rate is 38%, the capital gains tax, 38%, and the value-added tax, 18%.
