Sweden's population is 8.85 million with a GDP of $240 billion and a per capita income of $27,000. The taxes are one of the heaviest to its people. The top income tax rate is 56% (average: 31%). The top corporate tax rate is 28%, with a 30% capital gains tax and a 6-25% value-added tax. The government consumes about 50% of GDP. The inflation rate is about 2.3% and the exchange rate 7.85 kroners=$1.00.

Sweden in 1998 had a total passenger car fleet of 3.8 million units and new registrations of 243,000. About 375,000 units were made in Sweden in 1998, with production forecasts at 365,000 in 2000.
