3 Series x 4

BMW is further expanding its latest 3 Series range with the arrival of the Convertible. The car reflects the styling of the Coupe — on which it is based — from the front to the A-pillar. From that point, body styling is specific to the Convertible although it bears a close similarity to the Coupe. No fixed rollover hoops are used; instead BMW opted for a system that deploys from the rear head restraints in the event of an emergency. Equipment offered on the Convertible includes Automatic Stability Control + Traction (ASC+T) and third-generation Dynamic Stability Control (DSC III). Seatbelts are integrated into the structure of the front seats. This ensures the correct seatbelt geometry at all times and makes access to the rear seats easier, according to BMW. It also prevents the belts from flapping when not in use.

Compared to the previous generation 3 Series Convertible, the new car's folding soft top has improved noise insulation and visibility and provides improved luggage space. The whole soft-top system is contained in a cartridge that has two major benefits. With the roof erected, it allows the container that extends into the trunk space to be folded up, giving a 30% improvement in luggage space compared to the previous 3 Series Convertible. In addition, if owners wish to fit the optional hard top, the folded soft top can be removed as a single unit. The soft top has a heated glass rear windshield. The Convertible is the fourth model in the new 3 Series range and follows the sedan, Coupe, and Touring.
