Nissan Almera at Frankfurt
-
Nissan chose the Frankfurt Motor Show for the global unveiling of its new Almera. The car, which goes on sale early next year, is the result of Nissan's investment in its European design, development, and manufacturing facilities. The new Almera has been designed specifically for the European market, and will be the third model to be built at Nissan's UK manufacturing plant in Sunderland alongside the Primera and Micra. The company says the new Almera is the first European model to be based on Nissan's global MS platform. Engine choice spans 1.5-1.8 L plus a 2.2-L direct-injection 16-valve diesel that will be manufactured at Nissan's Cuatro Vientos plant near Madrid.
Nissan's UK and German design facilities have been involved with the creation of the new Almera, which incorporates what the company terms a "surf-tail roofline." The car's safety systems include active head restraints. Next year, Nissan plans to launch an MPV (multipurpose vehicle) derivative of the Almera, called the Tino, to be manufactured at the company's plant near Barcelona, Spain.
