Rich past, bright future for SRIM composites
With its revolutionary fiberglass body construction, the 1953 Chevrolet Corvette introduced the car-buying public—and competitive design engineers—to structural composite materials as viable replacements for metal. Although development work on composite materials previously had taken place in other industries, this was truly the first application where the technology was unveiled to the general public.
