Bekaert coatings for economy
The ongoing automotive battle to improve fuel consumption and lower emissions is being fought on several fronts with a wide variety of technologies from powertrains to aerodynamics. One that offers potentially useful gains without significant OEM R&D investment is surface coatings. Belgian company Bekaert specializes in supplying friction-reducing, wear-resistant DLC (diamond-like carbon) coatings for use in Formula One race engines, but has now extended the technology to high-volume power units.
