Lotus expands
-
Lotus Elise and the firm's Coventry facility.
|
Group Lotus is expanding its engineering consultancy business with a new base called Lotus Coventry. Lotus Body Engineering has acquired the assets of the automotive and aerospace engineering company, MGA Developments of Coventry. Some 50 percent of Lotus' business involves confidential development of cars. It has worked with major U.S., European, and Asian companies. Simon Wood, Managing Director of Lotus Engineering, said of the expansion: "The new Coventry-based plant will continue with its traditional manufacturing support activities for both the automotive and aerospace industries. Strategically, the new site will complement our existing facilities and support the growth of the business by providing increased turnover and expertise for Lotus."
It will allow the company to bring previously outsourced work in-house, increase engineering manufacturing work (providing increased turnover and expertise for the Group), and offer more extensive, faster, in-house "design-to-manufacture" capabilities, including more steel car body development for both prototyping and mass production. Other capabilities at Coventry will include vehicle styling and design, vehicle engineering, tool design and manufacture, prototype and show vehicle manufacture, and low-volume manufacture.
