Michelin and Pirelli share PAX

In a joint announcement, Michelin and Pirelli have revealed that they have entered into a co-operative agreement to further jointly develop the Michelin PAX system. PAX is an integrated system comprising a new tire design, a wheel with a flat-base profile, a flexible support ring, and a run-flat detector. The vertically anchored PAX was originally called PAV and has been described in AEI. Both companies regard the system as giving not only effective run-flat capability with the elimination of the spare wheel but added design freedom for motor manufacturers.
