Composite seat component
-
To cut costs on its automotive seat reclining mechanism, the P.L. Porter Co. switched from metal to composites for significant cost savings. The company chose Verton RF, a long-glass fiber-reinforced nylon 6/6 structural composite from LNP Engineering Plastics, for the swing-arm component of the reclining mechanism, and Lubricomp RFL, a glass-fiber-reinforced lubricated nylon 6/6 composite, for the dump-level component. Switching from metal to Verton RF allowed the firm to incorporate the seat dump within the reclining mechanism, for about a third of the cost of the part.
