Diesel common rail pump is modular
A high-pressure supply pump from Stanadyne Automotive Corp. can be used with the new generation of direct-injection, common rail diesel engines. In these engines, control of injection timing and quantity is exercised at the injector, and a supply pump is required to maintain high constant pressure in the common rail fuel gallery from which the injectors are fed. Production of the new pump will begin in 2001. The design of the pump is modular, enabling its configuration to be matched to a range of light- and heavy-duty diesel engines. The pump can be lubricated by the fuel or by a supply drawn from the engine lubricating oil system.
