CTS Electrocomponents' series 240 Hall Effect Encoder has been developed as a digital alternative for potentiometric sensing, for determining seat position. Attaching directly to each of three motors, the encoder governs forward and back travel, seat height, and seat back position. By measuring car seat movement of 250 mm (10 in.) or more in its front to back travel mode, the encoder provides a low-cost solution to seat position sensing in a harsh environment. This critical information can be used also as a controller to the onboard computer to adjust airbag deployment.
