Thermally active PowerGrip RT clamps from The Gates Rubber Company (www.gates.com) shrink at room temperature to provide a dynamic leak-proof seal on all types of coolant hoses. The polymeric design continuously reacts to thermal conditions to provide optimum clamping force from -40° to +150 °C. Unlike metal clamps, they attain their highest clamping force at low temperatures due to thermal contraction. This ensures a maintenance-free coolant connection and virtually eliminates cold coolant leaks. A new pulley design that integrates the standard hub and pulley part numbers into one piece is also being introduced. This design is stronger, lighter, and less costly than current assemblies. The company uses a special cold forming process to make the pulleys from flat steel disks.
