JOB TITLE
STAFF ENGINEER - NONCONVENTIONAL MACHINING & SURFACE ENHANCEMENT (NMSE)

POSITION SUMMARY

Manage the Nonconventional Machining and Surface Enhancement programs at the direction of associated industry-managed Task Groups; develop useful standards and state of the art consensus qualification procedures; scheduling pilot audits of suppliers using available and contracted resources; publish audit/survey reports working through committee structure and due process in order to serve industry, government and society; identify gaps/problems and report to appropriate management.

The ideal candidate will possess a technical working knowledge of Nonconventional Machining Technologies such as Electrochemical Machining, Electrochemical Grinding, Electrical Discharge Machining, Laser Beam Machining, and Surface Enhancement Technologies including Shot Peening, Peen Forming and/or Glass Bead Peening.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Manage technical audit report generation with strict confidentiality conducting technical audits; reviewing/updating audit reports; following up and closing on nonconformances and re-audits; providing technical summary reports to the assigned task group.
  • Manage effective closure of audit reports for timely issuance of certificates solving conformance issues, recommending process improvements, providing improvements/alerts for eAuditNet.
  • Manage and supervise assigned personnel including support staff, consultants, technical auditors, etc.
  • Motivate and guide Industry Managed Committee activities in developing standards, manuals, and reviewing audit reports including planning; recruiting qualified technical volunteers; monitoring/managing results.
  • Manage budgets of assigned activities.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field. (Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering Preferred.)
  • 5 years experience in Quality Systems desired.
  • 5 years experience working with technical industry standards.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate a Computer, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Technical knowledge of appropriate materials science/engineering disciplines/methods. (Electrochemical Machining, Electrochemical Grinding, Electrical Discharge Machining, Laser Beam Machining, Shot Peening, Peen Forming, Glass Bead Peening)
  • Meet delegation criteria.
  • 5 years experience working in related industry.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS OF THE WORKPLACE:

  • Ability to travel (domestic and international) up to 30% of the time.
  • Ability to work for long periods at a computer/desk.
  • Standard office environment.
