Refrigeration system

Cincinnati Sub-Zero's Tundra refrigeration system features Copeland Glacier scroll compressors. The system breaks the boundaries of conventional single-stage refrigeration systems by achieving low temperatures of -45 to +190°C (-49 to +374°F), thus eliminating the need for a cascade refrigeration system. Benefits over a cascade system include lower price, greater capacity, and up to 40% lower operating cost due to higher reliability. The unit can be used in any of the firm's environmental chambers from 1.5 to 11 kW (2 to 15 hp). Copeland scroll compressors have 50% fewer moving parts, which increases system reliability and reduces sound levels.

Rolling road

Rolling road Cirrus Technologies Ltd.'s RTC 9000 is a new generation of rolling roads based on the principle of a single, large roller for each vehicle wheel. Each roller has a diameter of 1 m (3.3 ft) and its own separate drive motor. The four rollers are independently driven, accelerated, braked, or disengaged by their own asynchronous motor operated via a control unit running Cirrus Stratus4 software. Advantages over conventional rolling roads include more accurate road simulation, improved ground clearance, greater flexibility of use, reduced power consumption, and fewer parts to maintain or replace. The system allows mixed operation of different vehicle types with varying mass simulation. In addition, different drive cycles can be realized by variable load characteristics for warming up or for uphill and downhill driving. Comprehensive diagnostic aids are included for self-calibration and fault recognition.

Engine oil

Conoco Inc.'s Hydroclear Power-D heavy-duty engine oil is based on the company's Pure Performance hydro-cracked base stock and approaches the performance of synthetic oils at a competitive cost. The oil has demonstrated good performance in areas such as wear protection, fuel efficiency, and resistance to thickening in service.

Sensor system

Corrsys-Datron Sensorsystems, Inc. has developed the Correvit HS-CE three-axis sensor system in cooperation with DaimlerChrysler. The sensor system measures longitudinal speed and vector velocity, transverse speed, roll angle, pitch angle, and the calculated drift angle. Distance measurement is accurate to within ±0.1%.

Test and control benches

Test and control benches Dactem's Test and Control Benches for automotive components include benches for testing magnetic, Hall-effect, and knock sensors; electrical motors; and thermal, wiper, and electronic systems. Every aspect of test bench development is managed, including drafting specifications, on-site installation, user training, and maintenance. The bench enables adaptation of different removable targets, adaptation of different sensor heads and connectors, position adjustment of sensor and air gap by three-axis table or six-axis robot, and control of target speed from 1 to 10,000 rpm with a stability of 0.05%. Angle measurement resolution is 0.05°. A temperature chamber is available for environmental testing.

Lighting products

Lighting products Docter Optics produces many types of molded 04 to 0260 mm standard and custom aspheric condensers and spherical singlet lenses. Product variations include Schott B270 Superwite or Duran Borosilicate glass materials; single- or multi-layer AR-, IR-, and UV-coated; and multi-element lens assemblies with fixed or variable focal length in metal or plastic housings. Applications include opto-electronic sensing of rain, distance, dirt, filling level, and road conditions as well as automobile lighting including DE, HID, and Xenon high- and low-beam headlights and fog lights. All optical products conform to SAE, ECE, and Japanese automotive industry standards.

Industrial barcode reader

Industrial barcode reader DVT Corp. claims that its new SmartReader for automotive code reading applications, equipped with FrameWork 2.1 software, is the only self-contained industrial barcode reader that offers TCP/IP Ethernet communication with OCR reading. SmartReader provides automatic identification and data capture by reading barcodes, Data Matrix, and OCR characters to communicate coordinate information to motion control, SPC, HMI, and PLC packages. Its OCR feature provides accurate interpretation even in harsh industrial environments. In addition to supporting the older ECC code formats, SmartReader interprets popular code formats including ECC200, Interleaved 2-of-5, Code 3-of-9, Code 128, UPC/EAN, and PDF-417 (General Motors' standard barcode). To measure code quality and integrity, the reader outputs the number of errors in the code that the algorithm had to correct. Ethernet and Modbus communications allow data acquisition and simultaneous transmission for date/lot code verification, documentation, and part tracking. The SmartReader also allows code match learning through digital input for easy setup and modifications; there is no need for a computer, joystick device, control pad, or expansion module when the code changes.

Dynamometer control

Dyne Systems' Inter-Loc V multi-loop controller for dynamometer test cells can control up to two dynos (engine or chassis) and a throttle. The touch-screen operator displays allow easy operation and setup, and its 1000-Hz update rate creates fast, crisp control with no pots to adjust. The dyno can control speed, torque, road load, or current. The engine's throttle position sensor can control speed, torque, MAP, vacuum, and position.
