Stochastic analysisST-ORM from EASi Engineering is an advanced meta-computing tool for performing stochastic analysis and optimizing generic physical systems. Stochastic analysis is a simulation method that enables engineers to consider engineering data caused by scatter in design parameters such as material or geometry, loads, or boundary conditions. The resulting information can be used for sensitivity analysis, optimization/design improvement, reliability assessment, response surface generation, correlation with tests, and statistical description. In a prototype-free development process, this type of analysis is crucial to address the uncertainties in engineering data.Air-fuel meter
ECM's AFRecorder Model 1200 air-fuel ratio meter is a compact, handheld meter that measures air-fuel ratio using an exhaust-mounted, wide-range UEGO sensor. Easily programmable for all fuel types and compositions, it can display air-fuel ratios in AFR, Lambda, and %O2 units. Other features include an analog output, programmable EGO simulator, and a large, built-in, nonvolatile recording memory. With the supplied PC software, the meter will record and plot in real time to a PC.
Small piezoelectric accelerometer
The Model 35A Isotron from Endevco is a small, adhesive-mounted piezoelectric accelerometer with integral electronics designed specifically for measuring vibration in three orthogonal axes on very small objects. The Model 35A has a mass of 1.1 g (0.035 oz), minimizing mass-loading effects. The device features a range of +/-1000 g and a voltage output sensitivity of 5 mV/g. A temperature range of -55 to +125°C (-67 to +257°F) allows the accelerometer to perform in extreme environments. The unit features a frequency response of 2 Hz to 12 kHz for precise measurement. The internal amplifiers of the accelerometer convert the high-impedance charge input into a low-impedance voltage output. The low-impedance output is then transmitted through the same wiring that supplies the required +3.5 to +4.5 mA constant-current power.
Multi-axis vibration testingEntela, Inc. has developed a 6-axis vibration machine for accelerated testing, including HALT, HASS, Failure Mode Verification Testing (FMVT), accelerated reliability, FSLT, HAVE, and Stress Step. The system allows independent monitoring and control of each axis for precise data. Applications include screening of electronics components and modules; testing of durability and suspension, stability and comfort, and squeaks and rattles on instrument panels; and seating systems, door assemblies, and other interior components and systems.Virtual simulationESI Group's Virtual Try-Out Space simulation environment provides full and effective virtual engineering for mechanical design automation. The simulation environment includes the company's virtual prototyping and manufacturing products, which can be used by engineers to explore design and process alternatives without building physical prototypes. Some prototyping tools include PAM-CRASH, a crash simulation software; PAM-SAFE, which tests passenger safety in a crashed vehicle; and SYSPLY, which is for the design of composite material structures consisting of multiple plies of varying patterns, such as racecars.Lightweight wheel
The OEM Kühl Wheel is a lightweight, steel wheel developed for high-volume production by Hayes Lemmerz International under license from Kühl Wheels, LLC. The wheel has a single-piece, conventionally stamped, sheet steel center and a rolled or spun steel rim. Benefits include reduced weight and cost, improved brake cooling, and increased styling flexibility. The patented wheel center design, developed by Kühl Wheels, incorporates a single-piece, spoked spider to provide the required strength, stiffness, and fatigue life. The concept was adapted for several OEM applications by Hayes Lemmerz International.
Lead-free battery terminal
A lead-free battery post terminal from ETCO Cord Products conforms to all SAE specifications. Supplied in strip form on reels, these terminals substantially, reduce assembly costs. Multiple crimp ear sizes, all of which accept various wire gauges, are available in both brass- and tin-plated material.
Optical inspection system
The Ettemeyer 3D-PulsESPI-System is an optical inspection system for noncontact, full-field, and 3-D analysis of dynamic events. The measurement principle is based on speckle interferometic techniques. The system is designed for the measurement of vibrations like brake squeal, car body vibrations, and engine vibrations as well as for the analysis of transient events, e.g., shock waves and explosion tests. Using three PulsESPI sensors for image acquisition and a double-pulsed, ruby laser for illumination, the system allows the instantaneous capture of submicrometer deformation amplitudes on almost any surface quality within microseconds. The evaluation as well as display and animation of quantitative results are performed using ISTRA software. The sensors are directly attached to the laser for easy aiming and measurement on the desired object, which can be up to several square meters in size. The operation is fully computer controlled and can be adapted to an almost completely automatic operation.
