Dimensional data capture

Faro Technologies' FARO Control Station delivers dimensional data capture on parts or assemblies. Powered by Softcheck Tools, the Control Station is a quick, accurate, and user-friendly system for cost-effective, in-process measurement. By simply following a green dot, operators are guided to all required measurement points on their parts, enabling anyone to use the system anywhere. Softcheck Tools are built from the manufacturers' part data and easily modified to accommodate design changes. New or revised part data can be submitted online.

SULEV emissions

A SULEV emissions concept for SUVs from FEV Engine Technology, Inc. can be implemented using well-proven and robust components for improved emissions levels and fuel consumption. FEV's results show that it is possible to replace both active catalyst heating and a HC adsorber with a cost-effective emissions-control concept that results in values well below the SULEV limits. This methodology allows the emissions profile to be moved into the engineering target range, represented by approximately 50% of the SULEV limits for the HC and NOx components. Both the in-use diagnostic capabilities and the service life are maintained while achieving the low emissions targets.

Gearshift knob

Haas Kunststoff's gearshift knobs feature a shock- and sound-absorbing inlet. An internal capsule is filled with polyurethane gel, a material normally used for bike saddles. The contactless mounting and special gel structure produce more efficient operation compared to ordinary materials such as elastomers. The result of this new construction is reduced vibrations and sounds from the gearbox.

Custom caps

Harman Corp.'s low-cost, custom-molded caps, plugs, and tabs meet customers' special requirements for part protection. The firm's dip-molding process provides the devices for applications that standard sizes will not fit. The custom-molded products join a line of standard caps, plugs, and tabs for protecting parts from moisture, dust, and other unwanted substances during assembly, finishing, and shipping. The product line includes round, rectangular, and square caps in various sizes; pull tabs and grab tabs; HP Series plugs, designed for easy removal without tools; and tapered caps and plugs, designed to function as both cap and plug.

Low-ohm resistors

IRC's power precision metal element resistors feature power ratings of 1, 3, and 5 W and ultralow resistance values down to 0.005 ½. Designated the LOB Series, these molded axial leaded resistors exhibit virtually no inductance in critical current-sensing circuits. The resistors can be used in many applications including switch-mode and linear power supplies, automotive current-sensing circuits, voltage regulators, and instrumentation.

CNG fuel injection

Keihin Corp. is offering a compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel-injection system to complement its EFI systems for the OEM market. The CNG system meets ULEV emissions levels while maintaining brisk vehicle response. The firm's injector design features flow rates suitable for engines from 0.8 to 6.0 L (49 to 366 in3), a rubber-coated valve to virtually eliminate leakage, and a Teflon-coated valve guide to allow dry gas applications. Keihin also manufactures injector drivers and regulators to provide a complete system solution. The CNG regulator successfully integrates a two-stage pressure regulator, shutoff solenoid valve, safety valve, filter, and regulator heater.

Multimeter/switching system

Keithley's Model 2750 Multimeter/Switching System is the latest in the firm's Integra Series of highly integrated precision measurement and control products. The device is a five-slot, high-density mainframe that combines a 14-function, 6 1Ú2-digit DMM with up to 200 channels of two-pole (differential) switching and multichannel analog/digital I/O. The Model 2750 is suitable for applications such as production testing of electronic components, subassemblies, and systems; burn-in testing; process monitoring and control; and precision low-ohm measurements. By integrating a DMM and switch system, the unit allows scan rates of more than 200 channels/s, thus reducing test times and increasing productivity. The device comes with onboard flash memory and supports nine different analog and digital I/O modules.

Precision dispensing

Kern-Liebers offers three dispensing machine models that can dispense two different materials in one pass using two mixing heads in a patented process. This dispensing technology provides high accuracy with precision metering pumps. It features a foam inner core with a tough elastomer outer skin. UV light does not discolor or break down the polymer. Other advantages include good adhesive capabilities and pliability, resistance to cracking and peeling, ability to color match outer skin, and water resistance.
