Charlie Baker holds a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with an Electrical Engineering minor from General Motors Institute, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan.

Charlie started his career with GM, cooping with Pontiac Motor Division where he worked as an engine test engineer and engine design engineer. Charlie then joined Saturn Corporation from initial startup in 1985 to first launch in 1990. He had responsibility as Design Engineer for several innovative engine and chassis systems during this time. After Saturn launched he joined Honda R&D Americas in Ohio as one of the first American staff, where over the next 15 years he helped grow R&D capability for Honda in the US from less than one hundred staff to approximately 1200 in a state of the art development facility. He led 5 vehicle developments as Chief Engineer - including the award winning '01 Acura MDX as well as development of the '03 Accord in Japan - and eventually had overall responsibility for vehicle development in North America as Vice President of Honda R&D Americas. In 2005 he left Honda to join Johnson Controls, a major global supplier of automotive interiors, where as Group VP for Interior Engineering he implemented Lean product development methodology to improve global competitiveness. He joined Harley-Davidson in 2010 as Vice President for Engineering, where again he was focused on Lean transformation of product development in this iconic American company. Most recently Charlie rejoined GM in 2011 and was proud to be responsible for global engineering of GM's Interiors until December of 2014. During his time in Interiors Charlie led significant improvement in quality, cost reduction, and innovation. In addition he implemented brand strategies for Interiors in collaboration with Design, Program Management and GPSC. In December of 2014 Charlie was named as Executive Director of Product Marketing for GEM.

Charlie resides in Northville, Michigan with his wife, Karen and 10 year old daughter Clare. An older daughter Catherine is in the Honors program at the University of Michigan. Charlie enjoys motorcycling, reading, travel with family and home improvement
