SAE's Digital Car Conference Navigates New Ground
Warrendale, PA, January 17, 2001 -
Major efforts are underway to organize and promote a newly established SAE conference on telematics. A special exhibit for the SAE Digital Car Conference, October 16-18, 2001 at Cobo Center, Detroit, Michigan was unveiled at Convergence 2000 in October of last year in Detroit. The Digital Car Conference, (DCC), and its accompanying exhibition is the first in SAE history to offer a fully interactive program format. Invited speakers from industry's key players in the telematics field will develop their presentations covering automotive electronic issues from multi-perspectives, such as technology, business, marketing, financial and more. Attendees to the conference will have the ability to provide real-time feedback and questions to the speakers and panelists who will then, in turn, tailor their presentations to aspects of the industry the audience would most like to hear. Less than 400 "interactive" seats will be available for this first time event. However, if you can't make the trip to Detroit this October, the conference will also be broadcast live with complete sets of presentation audio visuals via the World Wide Web, and will also be fully interactive...an SAE first!
The theme, "Telematics: What do people really want?" reflects the consumer approach to this inaugural conference on mobile electronic features such as navigation, entertainment, safety systems and more. SAE has teamed with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) who will be co-sponsoring this timely consumer-focused event and add the customer perspective to leading-edge industry views. To drive the point home, SAE participated in the recent Consumer Electronics Show, (CES), in Las Vegas, Nevada, by debuting the first public exposure of SAE's DCC display to a host of industry, aftermarket personnel and consumer attendees. The display was viewed with high interest by all categories of attendees, but in particular, automotive OEM and supplier decision-makers.
The focus of the event is the vehicle end user. The concurrent exhibition will be open the first evening to the general public offering suppliers the opportunity to test consumer acceptance and price elasticity for mobility related hardware and software. On-site research will be conducted and offered as part of the conference package, both on-site and on-line. Patti Kreh, the SAE Staff Team Leader for this event states "The collaboration of SAE and CEA will add teeth to the customer focus of the Digital Car Conference. DCC will also illustrate SAE's commitment to the end-user, by helping to advance current innovations in the telematics field, while also tempering it with customers' perceptions of value in relation to cost."
Those of you planning to attend the SAE 2001 World Congress in Detroit this March will have the opportunity to see the DCC display. The Digital Car Conference display is scheduled to appear on the main floor, Macomb Hall. Information can also be obtained in the SAE Marketing Village, a collection of exhibits from all of SAE's product groups, located in the Cobo Center main lobby outside of Macomb Hall.
