Hotel & Travel Information

Message to Attendees: SAE International has made every effort to secure the best possible group nightly room rate for you at this event. That rate results from a negotiated overall package of event needs such as sleeping rooms, meeting room space and other requirements. Contracts with the venue include a provision to reduce event costs if SAE meets or exceeds its minimum sleeping room block guarantee. Conversely, event costs will increase if SAE falls short of its minimum room block guarantee. Please help SAE keep the costs of this event as low as possible by booking your housing needs at the designated host hotel and through the reservation process created by SAE. Reserving elsewhere means you are booking outside the contracted room block, jeopardizing SAE's ability to meet its contracted obligations and to keep registration fees to a minimum. SAE appreciates your support and understanding of this important issue. Thank you.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:
San Antonio has just about any attraction or activity that you could want, from historical sights and authentic culture to pro sports and modern theme parks.

Downtown San Antonio is a very accessible and pedestrian friendly city. It offers numerous activities within a short walking distance of the hotel and many others through the easy to use trolley system or via a short taxi ride.

Within walking distance of the hotel, you will find the famous River Walk, located aside the meandering San Antonio River. It provides relaxing entertainment as it meanders through the city, with numerous shops, restaurants, hotels and museums located along the way.

Also within walking distance, is the IMAX Theater which tells the story of the defenders of the Alamo on its giant screen.

Just around the corner, you will find the famous Alamo itself. More than 2.5 million people visit the 4.2 acre complex each year. The Alamo represents nearly 300 years of history and contains several buildings, as well as beautiful gardens. Located just a short walking distance from the hotel, it is a "must see" when visiting San Antonio. Get more information at http://www.thealamo.org/.

For a taste of the Old West and wildlife exhibits from all over the world, you may want to visit the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum.

La Villita is a charming little and unique arts and crafts village with twenty-six shops, several with working artisans, along with two restaurants.

A short cab or trolley stop away is Market Square. This two-square block area is the center of San Antonio's Hispanic culture. You can enjoy shopping in the largest Mexican Market outside of Mexico. It is also a great place to dine on authentic Mexican cuisine at one of the many restaurants, cafes and bakeries, including MiTerra and La Margarita Restaurants.

Don't miss the chance to stop at Garcia Art Glass at 715 South Alamo. Located in an area known as "Southtown", it can be easily reached via the trolley system or a short cab ride. This unique shop features beautiful one-of-a-kind hand blown glass lighting, sculptures, jewelry and art pieces. It is fascinating to stop in and see the artists creating their beautiful designs. Call 210-354-4681 to get more information on glassblowing demonstrations and glass blowing hours. You can also visit their website at www.garciaartglass.com.

Bordering "Southtown", is the historic King William neighborhood, rich in history and cultural diversity. A walking tour is available to guide you through this beautiful area of historic homes. For more information on the walking tour, visit http://www.saconservation.org/tours/sitevisits_kingwilliam.htm.

While in this area, be sure to stop by the Guenther House, the elegant home of Pioneer Flour Mill's founding family. It is located at the bend of the San Antonio River and includes a museum, a restaurant and small retail cooking shop. For more information visit their website at http://www.guentherhouse.com/.

San Antonio also fosters great artistic talent, from small galleries to great museums, like the McNay, the Witte and the San Antonio Museum of Art. For family fun, visit Six Flags Fiesta Texas or SeaWorld San Antonio.
