"Ramchargers and the Development of Funny Cars"
Biography
Mr. Buckel is a graduate Mechanical Engineer from Washington University in St. Louis and received a Masters of Automotive Engineering from the Chrysler Institute of Engineering. While working at Chrysler Engineering he was a Ramcharger and totally involved in Super Stock and Funny Car racing. After leaving Chrysler he joined Booz, Allen & Hamilton and become the Principal in charge of heavy vehicle engineering projects. He led projects to integrate gas turbine engines into transit buses, develop methanol fuel conversion of diesel engines and engineered the first fuel cell/hybrid powered transit buses. Since his retirement from Booz-Allen, he has maintained an engineering consulting business and ran a Late Model Stock Car at Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas. He currently resides on a lake in Hartwell Georgia and is completing his ’65 hemi engined Dodge.
