Gudmund Smedler Gudmund Smedler
Heavy Duty Technology Director - European Region
Johnson Matthey

Gudmund Smedler was awarded his PhD degree in Chemical Reaction Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1988. Following six years within the Volvo Group, 1988-1993, where he held various specialist and management positions within the fields of combustion and emissions, he worked for Johnson Matthey where he was in charge of diesel emission control product development between 1994 and 1996. During the period 1996-1998, Dr Smedler held a position as an adjunct professor at the Competence Centre for Catalysis at Chalmers University of Technology, where he served as the project leader for NOx emission control research. Simultaneously, he was the General Manager for the Technology Licensing Office at Chalmers, which involved commercial marketing of patents from all branches of Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg. Between 1998 and 2002, he worked as managing director for the Swedish powertrain engineering consultancy MTC, and from 2002 to 2004 as vice president of AVL-MTC, following the acquisition of MTC by AVL List Gmbh.
