Hotel & Travel Information

Message to Attendees

SAE International has made every effort to secure the best possible group nightly room rate for you at this event. That rate results from a negotiated overall package of event needs such as sleeping rooms, meeting room space and other requirements. Contracts with the venue include a provision to reduce event costs if SAE meets or exceeds its minimum sleeping room block guarantee. Conversely, event costs will increase if SAE falls short of its minimum room block guarantee. Please help SAE keep the costs of this event as low as possible by booking your housing needs at the designated host hotel and through the reservation process created by SAE. Reserving elsewhere means you are booking outside the contracted room block, jeopardizing SAE's ability to meet its contracted obligations and to keep registration fees to a minimum. SAE appreciates your support and understanding of this important issue. Thank you.

Attractions

Downtown Los Angeles

Website: www.downtownla.com

Vibrant downtown Los Angeles is home to several points of interest. You'll discover architectural gems such as the Broadway theaters, modern venues like the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and a wide variety of dining and shopping opportunities.

Of course, downtown Los Angeles is also a cultural mecca, boasting the highest concentration of museums in the city. There are so many to choose from it's unlikely you'll fit them all in, but the Museum of Contemporary Art and the California Science Center are most certainly worth a visit.

Staples Center is also located in the heart of downtown, home to professional sports teams representing the NBA, WNBA, AFL and NHL. This enormous site is also home to major concerts and performances, which have included Prince, Madonna and Rod Stewart in recent years.

To make the most of downtown Los Angeles, various tours are available which cover a variety of interests. Whether you're here for architecture, history, art or shopping, a tour will cover a range of fascinating destinations. One must-see site is the Millennium Biltmore itself, which has hosted no less than nine US presidents in its Presidential Suite.

Few hotels in downtown Los Angeles boast the history and heritage of the Millennium Biltmore, so sample these comfortable guest rooms when you choose to stay in southern California.

Jewelry District

Website: www.jewelry-los-angeles.com/

The Jewelry District in downtown Los Angeles is home to a wide variety of jewelry vendors, and most certainly worth a visit while you stay in LA.

In fact, it's the largest jewelry district in the entire United States, with sales amounting to just under $3 billion every year. Vendors are located on Hill Street, Olive Street and a certain portion of Broadway, and offer everything from small trinkets to exclusive designer jewelry. Los Angeles' Jewelry District is also home a range of Latin juice bars and vintage theaters, so it's an ideal place for a day of serious shopping!

Few hotels in Los Angeles boast such close proximity to the Jewelry District, so sample the convenient comforts of the Millennium Biltmore when visiting.

Museum of Contemporary Art

Website: www.moca.org/

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles is actually composed of three separate museums, all of which are just minutes from the Millennium Biltmore.

The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA is located at 152 North Central Avenue in Little Tokyo, and the MOCA Pacific Design Center can be found at 8687 Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. MOCA's main branch is located on Grand Avenue, close to the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The museum's main branch is an attraction in itself, having won numerous design accolades for its contemporary red sandstone exterior. Of course, once you've marvelled at the ingenuity of Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, you'll want to explore the museum's range of wonderful exhibits. Displays consist of both American and European art, and include a range of influential pieces. You'll discover the work of Jean Michel Basquiat, Dan Flavin and Willem de Kooning, as well as Robert Rauschenberg, Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock and Piet Mondrian. The permanent collection numbers over 5,000 items, and special exhibits are on view throughout the year.

MOCA is open from 11am and closes at varying times each day. It is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays with free admission on Thursdays.

Few hotels in Los Angeles boast such close proximity to the museums, but the Millennium Biltmore Hotel is just minutes away from all branches.
