Scott Atherton is President and Chief Operating Officer of IMSA, and is responsible for the day-today operation of both the sanctioning body and the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

He formerly served as President and CEO of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón and the Panoz Motor Sports Group (PMSG), whose holdings also included Road Atlanta, Sebring International Raceway, Élan Technologies, and IMSA. During his tenure, Atherton helped engineer a groundbreaking "green racing" alliance with IMSA, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Energy and SAE International.

Atherton joined the Panoz organization in August 2000 after serving as President and General Manager of California Speedway in Fontana, Calif. He served in a senior management capacity with Penske Motorsports, Inc., for several years, first as president and general manager of Nazareth (Pa.) Speedway before shifting to the California facility.

Prior to his time with Penske and the International Speedway Corporation, Atherton served for five years as President and General Manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif. He also formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and is a past president of the promoters group of Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART).

After graduating from the University of Washington in 1983 with a degree in marketing, his first professional job was with the Domino's Pizza CART racing team (Douglas Shierson Racing and driver Al Unser Jr.).

Atherton and his wife, Nancy, reside in the Daytona Beach area with their three children.
