Meet The SAE 2015 NAIPC Leadership TeamAndrew Smart Andrew Smart is the Director of Society Programs & Industry Relations and is responsible for all technical activities with the engineering community in the aerospace, automotive and commercial vehicle sectors for SAE International and also serves as Managing Director of the SAE Industry Technologies Consortia. He has nearly 30 years of technical, program and management leadership experience in the automotive and commercial vehicle industries, primarily with OEM and global technical consultancies with primary focus upon propulsion system technologies.
Full Bio Bob Fascetti Robert Fascetti is Vice President, Powertrain Engineering, Ford. As part of his position, Fascetti is responsible for powertrain engineering around the world. Fascetti has more than 25 years of powertrain and product development experience at Ford Motor Company. Prior to this role, Fascetti served as director, Global Engine Engineering. In this position, Fascetti worked to make Ford a global leader in fuel economy and performance. The entire EcoBoost engine line up, as well as the best-in-class 6.7-liter diesel engine, were designed and developed under his leadership. The 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine has been named the International Engine of the Year for three consecutive years.
Full Bio Bob Lee Bob Lee is Vice President and Head of Engine Powertrain and Electrified Propulsion Systems Engineering for FCA US LLC, formerly Chrysler Group LLC. In this capacity, he has responsibility for directing the design, development and release of all engines and electrified propulsion systems for Chrysler Group products. The latest innovative products include the 707-hp Hellcat engine which has made global headlines and the diesel engine in the Ram 1500 which has earned the highest mpg ever given to a full-size pickup. Both of these engines were winners of the 2015 Ward's Ten Best Engines
Full Bio Brian Bolton Brian Bolton is Senior Manager of Powertrain Engineering for the Nissan Technical Center North America (NTCNA). His roles include Chief Powertrain Engineer for the USA based manufactured QR and VQ engines and also leads the Regulatory Affairs for the USA market. Bolton joined Nissan in 2004. Earlier in his career he led the advanced engineering department at Detroit Diesel Corp. He holds a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Illinois - Urbana/Champaign. Dan Nicholson Dan Nicholson was appointed Vice President, Global Powertrain in December 2014. Dan was the Executive Director for Global Powertrain Embedded Controls at GM. He has held this role since April, 2011. He was responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the global engineering team responsible for all powertrain controllers and software as well as calibrating all powertrains, providing customer-pleasing drive quality and ensuring compliance with tailpipe emissions standards and on-board diagnostics.

Dave is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of positive and productive working relationships with key automotive executives at corporations, government entities and sister engineering societies around the world. Additionally, Dave is responsible for identifying new products and business opportunities for SAE.

Full Bio Doug Patton Doug Patton is executive vice president of Engineering and chief technical officer of DENSO International America, Inc. (DIAM), and senior director of DENSO Corp. Located at DENSO's North American headquarters in Southfield, Michigan, he oversees all North American product engineering and development, campus facilities and operations, all testing and technical services, and engineering administration. He is responsible for climate control; engine components and systems and components; engine electrical; safety products; cluster, in-vehicle-infotainment (IVI) and body electronics, and small motor engineering.
Full Bio Eric Tech Eric Tech is senior vice president, Strategy and Planning, and president, Global Business. Eric successfully developed the blueprint for Navistar's strategic direction following a significant restructuring and refocusing of our business. Going forward he is responsible for defining meaningful and transformation growth opportunities as well as identifying combinations and potential global alliances for Navistar. Before joining Navistar, Eric spent almost two decades at the Ford Motor Company. He has BSME and MBA from the University of Michigan and has served as a past chair of SAE North American International Powertrain Conference. He is also a Midwest Trustee for the Boys and Girls Club and a member of the Salvation Army Chicago Advisory Board. Gary Rogers Gary W. Rogers is currently Vice President, Advanced Engineering at Roush Industries, Inc. He was previously, Director of Research at the Oakland University School of Engineering and Computer Science, following his retirement after an almost 29 year career as President and CEO of FEV, Inc. He also served as Executive Vice President of FEV GmbH, Aachen Germany. He sits on the Board on Energy and Environmental Systems at the National Academies and has served on many technology assessment committees for the National Research Council of the National Academies. He is an SAE Fellow and was a founding member of the NAIPC Executive Leadership Team. Gary Smyth Dr. J. Gary Smyth is Executive Director of Global Research and Development at General Motors Company. Smyth began his career with GM in 1989 as a senior project engineer with GM Advanced Product Engineering in Warren, Michigan. He has held numerous positions in the Advanced Powertrain organization and was named Engineering Director, Advanced Propulsion System Controls in 1999, with responsibilities including advanced diesel and advanced emission development. In September 2004, he transferred to GM R&D as Director, Powertrain Systems Research Lab, where his responsibilities included directing all research and development globally for conventional and hybridized propulsion systems. In June 2010, Gary was promoted to Executive Director, North American Science Labs, GM Global Research and Development.

Aoyama guides the organization in its expanding role and responsibilities as the local Technical Center for the American marketplace.
Full Bio Jeff Hemphill Jeff Hemphill is Chief Technical Officer of the Schaeffler Group Americas. Mr. Hemphill is responsible for new product development, analysis and testing of transmission, engine and chassis components and systems for conventional and hybrid vehicles. Jeff has a BSME from The University of Akron, an Executive Certificate in Strategy and Innovation from MIT, and 28 years of experience in automotive powertrains. This includes manufacturing, product design, testing, and vehicle development experience. Mr. Hemphill has more than 90 patents filed or issued. Jeremy Holt In his role as Vice President - Global Business Development of TREMEC, Jeremy Holt is responsible for global sales, marketing, application engineering, strategic, market and product planning activities. The company has current operations in Mexico, Belgium, US and India and he has specific responsibility for the U.S. facilities and operations.
Full Bio Ken Howden In the Vehicle Technologies Program under the DOE Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office, Mr. Howden is Director for the 21st Century Truck Partnership with four federal agencies and fifteen heavy-duty truck OEMS and major suppliers. He also manages several cooperative R&D agreements with USCAR OEM partners and the national laboratories and is the government chair of the USDRIVE Advanced Combustion and Emission Control Tech Team. Mr. Howden has worked as a mechanical engineer in vehicle technology R&D for 29 years with DOE and the U.S. Army. He holds a BSME from Virginia Tech and an MEA from George Washington University. Kregg Wiggins Kregg Wiggins is Senior Vice President of Continental's Powertrain Division and is responsible for overseeing the five business units in North America: Engine Systems, Sensors & Actuators, Transmissions, Hybrid Electric Vehicles, and Fuel Supply. Wiggins is located in Auburn Hills, Mich., where the team focuses on aligning innovative and efficient system solutions that impact every aspect of a vehicle's drivetrain.
Full Bio Neville Jackson Neville Jackson is the Chief Technology & Innovation Officer for Ricardo plc, He is responsible for developing the future global vision of automotive and energy technology at Ricardo and for the strategy and planning for internally funded research and development. A graduate of Imperial College, London, his career has included 31 years at Ricardo focused on research and technology demonstration programmes covering advanced combustion engines, hybrid systems and energy recovery technologies. His work at Ricardo has included many initiatives to create new innovative technologies and research collaborations with government, academia and industrial partners. A key focus in recent years has been the development of technology roadmaps in a range of sectors and the associated R&D agenda to deliver them.

Dr. Hupperich has extensive experience in the performance development, design and validation of powertrains for automotive and commercial applications, including diesel, gasoline as well as alternative fuels.

In his current role, Ray is responsible for strategic planning and industry relations for AVL North America. From 2003 to 2012, Corbin served as President of AVL Powertrain Engineering, Inc. where he was responsible for the Company's powertrain engineering consultancy activities and the growth of the Company's North American simulation software sales.
Full Bio Sujit Jain Sujit Jain is regional president of the gasoline systems division, North America for Robert Bosch LLC, a position he has held since December 2006. As regional president, Jain is responsible for all gasoline systems business activities, including hybrid and transmission controls in North America, and he oversees manufacturing, engineering, finance and sales for the division. Previously, Jain was senior vice president, powertrain - gasoline and transmission systems, Robert Bosch Corporation Automotive Group.
