The Right Worshipful, The Lord Mayor, Councillor Shafique Shah City of Birmingham

Councillor Shafique Shah is first and foremost a Brummie, having lived in Birmingham and Bordesley Green since childhood. Education has always been an important aspect for him and its ability to provide great opportunities to progress in life. He was educated at Sir Wilfred Martineau School and progressed on to graduate in mechanical and manufacturing engineering being qualified to Incorporated Engineer status.

Following his graduation he joined a well-known telecommunications company to take up a senior managerial position. Working for this company The Lord Mayor acquired very useful entrepreneurial skills which motivated him to progress into business for himself. Having travelled extensively around the world on business visiting countries such as China, Malaysia, Canada, America and Dubai, he has experienced a great diversity of social cultures which are all reflected here in Birmingham.

Shafique is very proud of Birmingham and will work hard as an ambassador for our great city to show the world all the positive aspects Birmingham and its citizens have to offer. His hope is to make the people of Birmingham proud of their Lord Mayor.

Brian Watt is Vice-President, Strategic Planning for Innospec Inc. He has spent his whole career in the specialty chemicals industry - and the last 13 years working in the fuel additives business with Innospec Inc. Part of his responsibility is the provide the context information on market development for the company to develop its marketing and R&D programs.

Ron Lee, Director of Powertrain, Jaguar Land Rover

Ron Lee received the title of Jaguar Land Rover Director of Powertrain in 2013 following twelve years as Group Chief Engineer of Powertrain. In his role, Ron is responsible for the delivery of engines, transmissions, drivelines and associated systems for all Jaguar Land Rover products. Most recently this has included a new 380HP supercharged V6 engine for the F-Type and other Jaguar Land Rover vehicles. Ron has been instrumental in developing the new family of advanced, low emission, 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines which will be built at Jaguar Land Rover's £500m state-of-the-art advanced Engine Manufacturing Centre. Ron became Chief Engineer for Jaguar Powertrain in 1999 and in 2001 became Group Chief Engineer for Jaguar and Land Rover Powertrain.

Wolfgang Warnecke, Chief Scientist, Shell

Dr.Wolfgang Warnecke appointed to as Shell's Chief Scientist for Mobility since early 2011.

The 10 Chief Scientists in the Shell organisation, reporting directly to the CTO, are leading the Shell Group Technologies, ranging from Geology to finished Fuels and Oils. The Chief Scientist role for Wolfgang Warnecke is covering all technology developments in transport, related to fuels and lubricants and all issues on Mobility directions, ranging from Marine, Rail and Aviation to Off- and On-Road incl. Motorsport.

In addition to his Chief Scientist role, Wolfgang is also Senior Technology Manager for longer term Fuels Development & Innovation in Shell.
And since 1998 he is also the Head of Shell's Technology Centre in Hamburg, Germany, which specialises in fuels and lubricants development and engine, vehicle and marine technologies.

Wolfgang was born in 1956 in Hamburg, Germany. After studying Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Hannover (specialising in automotive combustion engines), he gained a PhD in Automotive Engineering from Hamburg University in 1987.

Joining Shell in 1987, Wolfgang started his career as a scientist in the field of lubricant development and engine testing in Hamburg. He then moved to work as a senior scientist at Shell's UK technology centre before returning to Hamburg to head up lubricants development and engine testing. Subsequent assignments in Shell's Business units included Lubricants Technical Services in Germany or Fuels Marketing in London.
After leading both Automotive Fuels and Lubricants development for the Hamburg laboratory, finally he took over the global Shell Group responsibility for Automotive Lubricants Technology, and, more recently, for the Automotive Fuels Development.

Wolfgang's expertise in engine technology and automotive products has earned him extensive recognition across the automotive manufacturing industry as well as by academia. In 2005, Wolfgang, together with Dr Wolfgang Steiger of Volkswagen were awarded the 'Professor Ferdinand Porsche Prize', considered by many to be one of the world's most prestigious award for automotive engineers, for their work on synthetic fuels development. He also is closely linked with the world leading auto industry, from engine manufacturer to key supplier, ranging from US, EU to Asia.

Wolfgang is married with one son. His 'Passion for Mobility' and the automotive industry extend into his free time across the family, and he enjoys motorsports and collecting and restoring cars and bikes setting technical milestones. He also enjoys skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking and being outdoor.
