Battery Thermal Characterization Battery cycling, thermal calorimetry, infrared imaging, means to generate and characterize internal shorts
Vehicle Climate Control Testing Outdoor vehicle thermal soak and cooldown/heatup testing to extend electric vehicle range and reduce conventional vehicle fuel use.
Heavy Vehicle Cabin Climate Control Thermal testing to research techniques that reduce fuel use for truck idling
Solar PV to Vehicle to Building Solar canopy for recharging EDVs in connection with building and vehicle power

Laboratory Description
Power Electronics Advanced Heat Transfer and Thermal Interfaces Single and two phase jets and sprays, pool boiling, and air cooling to increase heat flux removal. Bonding and interfaces including physical, thermal, electrical, and structural characterization
Electric Motor Thermal Management Experiment to assess oil cooling to permit higher electric motor power densities
Fluid Flow Visualization and Material and Interface Thermal Characterization Particle Imaging Velocimetry to characterize air or liquid flows, including microchannels
Transient Thermal Reflectance - laser based technique to measure very low thermal resistances
Thermal Manikin Environmental Chamber NREL's Thermal Manikin
Vehicle Cabin Simulator Test Apparatus for assessing the impact of climate control seating on vehicle fuel use
Integrated Vehicle Thermal Management Test Loop Combining thermal management loops for cabin, power electronics, electric motor, energy storage, and engine
