Today, Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) is among the highest research and development areas of combustion. For years, researchers have strived to develop a combustion system that combines the best properties of spark ignition and compression ignition. HCCI has the potential, if fully developed, to increase the efficiency and emission levels of not only engines using diesel, but those using gasoline and other fuel blends.
