Welcome!
What makes SAE special?
Well, there are a lot of answers, but one of them is the interaction
between members - the learning, friendships and partnerships - that are
generated through SAE every year. The SAE Sections Board has a long history
of helping members connect, network, socialize and share technical knowledge
through our Sections and Groups.
However, our newest vision is to also create the Community experience:
as a less formal way for our members to provide value to each other. Unlike
a Section or Group, an SAE community does not need officers, does not receive
formal dues reimbursements and does not have to submit formal reports to
the Sections Board. Instead, it can take on whatever shape is desired by
its members.
For example, a Community could consist of SAE members who work within
a five-mile radius of one another - so they get together for lunch once
a week. SAE can help make this happen by assisting the members to contact
one another.
Another Community might consist of SAE members with a common interest,
who use an SAE forum to post messages, questions, news and discussions
about that interest.
In fact, we are proud to introduce our first two Communities, which
will take this exact form! Members Yannick Montagano and Nick Bertone are
avid Formula One racing fans. So, they've asked us to start up a community
dedicated to that subject. At the same time, we generated such excitement
during a recent SAE trip to the Bonneville Salt Flats that we've created
a Land-Speed Record Racing community, hosted by "Landspeed" Louise Noeth!
We also are introducing "Tech Talk" - a general forum for mobility engineering
professionals to post questions and discussions about technical interests,
job-related issues and more. Everyone becomes more efficient when they
can tap into a network of professionals, so let's start one here.
In the end, we just want to know: What's your passion? What makes you
want to connect with other SAE members? Let us know by telling us what
kind of Community you'd like to see! |
