CAD/CAM/CAE System Selection and Utilization

Abstract
His presentation shows how to select a CAD/CAM system and monitor its use to optimize productivity and longevity of data. Multiple computer aided design and manufacturing techniques are compared and applications noted. Examples are given from Aerospace, Automotive, as well as from small business. The scope includes engineering analysis to manufacturing. This presentation is useful for those considering a new system or reviewing existing installations.

Biography
Gary K. Conkol has been an SAE member for over 25 years and has been a constant contributor in the field of automation and CAD/CAM. A Master's degree in Mechanical engineering is supplemented by work experience with companies including Daimler Chrysler, Eaton, NIST's Manufacturing Extension Partnership, Ford, Picker, U.S. Army Tank-Automotive Command, and consulting at medium and small sized manufacturers. Gary is currently in Custom Design Engineering at Sterling Trucks division of Freightliner as part of Daimler Chrysler's Commercial Vehicle Operation.

Gary led the Applicon CAD/CAM Users Group Internationally and has been involved with several other user groups. He served as the Testing Project Manager for the US efforts on IGES and STEP (ISO 10303). He has over 60 technical publications in the US and has lectured or consulted in 8 countries on the use of CAD/CAE/CAM.

Gary is currently Vice Chairman of Cleveland Section of SAE, Vice Chairman of the SME Northeast Ohio Chapter 220 and an active participant in coordinating several engineering related associations in the Northeast Ohio area. Gary also consults through CCS, Conkol Computer Services.
