KraussMaffei’s GX Series of injection molding machines features unique innovations (including the GearX locking mechanism, the GuideX guide shoe, and the MC6 control system) that provide the framework for increasing production efficiency.
“The GX is a brand new model,” Paul Caprio, President of KraussMaffei Corp. (USA), told SAE Magazines during the company’s Jan. 31 TechDay in Warren, MI.
With its GuideX and GearX technologies, the GX Series of hydromechanical two-platen machines is designed to net precise mold movements and energy-efficient clamping.
GuideX is a new type of fixed bearing joint that stabilizes the moving platen. It provides a flexible connection to the rigid machine frame and absorbs deformation forces as the clamp moves. That equates to almost frictionless mold movements, which translate to lower mold wear and high product quality, the company says.
The GearX locking element is engaged in the tie-bar notches via a short flux of force inside the unit. This locking unit is located behind the moving mold fixing platen and is protected. Activated by two external coupling rods, the GearX system permits fast locking (approximately 0.25 s) of the machine.
The GX Series covers a clamping force range from 4000 to 6.5 kN (900,000 to 1500 lb) in different sizes and equipment variants that are suitable for producing various parts for automotive applications as well as for other industries.
A new 19-in touch screen is the interface point for the GX Series' MC6 control system. The split-screen display makes it possible to see key production processes simultaneously. An integrated ProcessDesigner tool presents current processes in visual terms. Any necessary modifications to processes can be accomplished via drag-and-drop movements or wiping movements.
The MC6 control system with its embedded Windows 7 operating system also features a resistive dual touch function so a person wearing gloves can operate it. And the control system includes an Eco button that facilitates an energy-optimized configuration of the machine. Caprio said the MC6 control system eventually will be offered on all of the company’s different machine models.
