The Scuderi Group says it has received over $20 million in additional private funding for the continued development of its internal combustion engine, bringing the total amount of funds raised to date to over $35 million. The engine is a split-cycle design that divides the four strokes of a standard engine over a paired combination of one intake/compression cylinder and one power/exhaust cylinder. The two cylinders are connected by a crossover chamber with high-speed valves that allow each piston and cylinder to perform their respective functions independently. Scuderi claims its engine offers efficiency gains and reduced emissions, as well as more torque and power, compared to conventional gasoline and diesel engines. A working model of the engine’s first prototype is scheduled to be unveiled in April at the SAE World Congress in Detroit.
