Quallion has developed a battery-powered HVAC solution designed for Class 6-8 trucks under a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. This system offers up to 10 h of uninterrupted battery-powered cooling. The DOE and Quallion have developed this technology, which relies on Quallion’s MATRIX battery technology, to meet specifications for OEM and aftermarket installation. The system has been fitted in a Class 8 truck for preliminary field testing with plans to obtain data for future commercialization. The lithium-ion battery is 25% the weight of an equivalent lead-acid system in a standard truck HVAC application.
