Australia on Sept. 22 published a design rule, ADR 84/00, requiring trucks with a GVW greater than 12,000 kg to be fitted with a device to prevent smaller vehicles (i.e., passenger cars) from under-running them in a frontal impact. According to InterRegs, an online resource for global vehicle safety and emissions regulations, the rule requires that the devices meet the technical requirements of United Nations ECE Regulation No. 93 and mandates their fitment from Jan. 1, 2011, for new types of vehicle and from Jan. 1, 2012, for all new vehicles.
