Based on the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the BRABUS-built Technology Project Hybrid is equipped with Protean Electric in-wheel motors. Powering the rear wheels in combination with the 2.2-L internal-combustion diesel engine, the motors each add 80 kW of peak power and 800 N·m of peak torque. This gives the vehicle a combined electric motor and internal-combustion engine acceleration of 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.4 s and 60-120 km/h (37-75 mph) of 5.6 s. In addition to performance, the high efficiency and regenerative braking capability of the Protean Drive system improves the car's fuel economy by about 30% vs. a comparable vehicle not equipped with Protean's in-wheel motors.
