Preh’s central controller concept offers an integrated touchpad. Under a black panel surface, the safety-oriented feature has a screen that displays a wide range of menus that are selected via a rotary and push knob with integrated touchpad for navigation, telephone, multimedia, and memo-board. Function selection can be done via the touchpad in the submenus. For example, in “write” mode all characters written with one finger are displayed. The integrated touchpad not only provides finger-writing recognition but also smartphone-like gestures, such as zoom-in/-out or swipe and scroll. According to Preh, the control knob design addresses the issue of incorporating up-to-date means of driver control—as seen in smartphone operations—in a way that helps minimize eyes-off-road time.
