NanoSteel’s new advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) feature a combination of high strength and high ductility for automotive structures. The patented, nano-structured material will allow reduced weight in vehicles through the use of thinner, higher-strength gauges while maintaining safety. The company has developed three classes of steel with measured strength/elongation performance of 950 MPa/35%, 1200 MPa/30%, and 1600 MPa/15%, respectively. AHSS also allows the industry to continue to use steel’s existing infrastructure, scale, and efficiencies. NanoSteel’s AHSS product eliminates the extra processing required of currently available AHSS materials, as the material’s inherent ductility allows the forming of component parts using room-temperature metal-stamping processes on existing manufacturing equipment, known as cold forming.
