Momentive Specialty Chemicals offers an epoxy system to accelerate mass production of carbon-fiber composites for lightweight automotive structural components. Curing in as little as 2 min, Momentive’s new low-viscosity EPIKOTE resin 05475 and EPIKURE curing agent 05500 system facilitates industrial-scale high- or low-pressure resin transfer molding (RTM), with direct infusion of carbon fibers, according to the company. The system features a very low viscosity at the recommended injection and cure temperature of 115-120°C (239-248°F) as well as a long injection window of about 1 min that allows for fiber wetting and mold fill, followed by a very fast cure.
