This tool enables designers to model even the most complex shape of microstructure onto any possible CAD shape and surface and to mix diverse construction materials. SPEOS enables engineers and designers to carry out complex, integrated mechanical and optical simulation seamlessly within their CAD environment. Using the Optis 3D Textures solution in SPEOS, designers and engineers can create hundreds of millions of modeled points on surfaces directly inside Pro/Engineer, providing them control of how the light behaves. Optis software enables the engineer to take into account human vision and thus simulate how the product will be perceived under any lighting conditions and viewing angle.

OEMs for the commercial off-highway industry can simulate complete virtual vehicles and carry out electronic control unit (ECU) testing using a combination of dSPACE ASM simulation models with a dSPACE simulator. Models feature real-time simulation of systems including engines and vehicle dynamics as well as brake hydraulics, electrical systems, exhaust systems, traffic, and trailer. The technology manages complex large vehicle networks to create a virtual truck, bus, or other vehicle. ASMs are typically used on a simulator for hardware-in-the-loop testing of ECUs or during the design phase of controller algorithms. Script-based testing improves reproducibility for additional tests, while the ability to conduct regression testing on multiple ECUs across distributed functions with interchanging variants simplifies development. All blocks in the models are visible, making it easier to add or replace components or to expand a single model; roads and driving maneuvers also can be created.

The MRA air/electronic column from Stotz USA eliminates the need for a PC in combining measurements and SPC (statistical process control) data, thereby resulting in a lower overall system cost for the user. Incorporating air gauging and electronic gauging into a simple design, the column is designed specifically for use on high-production, tight-tolerance parts. According to the manufacturer, the MRA integrates more measurements and more SPC data than any other system available without a PC add-on. The device features an easy-to-read 12-in touch screen where the actual part can be displayed with all relevant points of measurement shown on-screen. Programming to the column is done using either the touch screen or remotely with computer software. There are four bays in the front of the column that allow either electronic (LVDT-half bridge) cards or air-electronic cards to be inserted. Each card can host four simultaneous measurements.
