3M's Uniform Lighting Lens (ULL) technology is a light management solution that uses a precision-engineered, micro-patterned polycarbonate that provides even illumination when used as an inner lens in light-emitting diode (LED) taillamp designs. When ULL is used in an application, the hollow light mixing cavity design enables the creation of lightweight designs with a thin profile and uniform appearance. The improved uniformity may also enable LED reductions. According to 3M, ULL’s thermoformable, automotive-grade polycarbonate also provides proven durability while allowing custom shapes to be created. The 2013 Buick Enclave features the ULL technology in its first commercial vehicle application.
