Ixetic offers a battery cooling system for commercial hybrid vehicles. Lithium-ion batteries require a temperature window between 15 and 35°C (59 and 95°F) for optimum performance and service life. Despite increased heat during driving, this temperature window can be maintained using the Ixetic carbon dioxide (CO2) R744 refrigerant compressor, which features a maximum cooling capacity of 10 kW (13 hp) and works like a heat pump to both cool and heat. The compressor draws power directly from the battery while the engine is idle, using the power for heating or for cooling with water. The system features a compact design that is the size of a conventional commercial vehicle battery. The CO2 is neither toxic nor combustible, will not deplete the ozone, and does not need disposal.
